Black Hat: DDoS and Free Speech

Krebs and Prince

One of those moments at Black Hat. Brian Krebs (left) had given a presentation on DDoS services, in which he criticized the DDoS protection service Cloudflare for providing DDoS protection to the web sites where you can purchase those services. Krebs complained this was a conflict of interest. During the Q&A session, Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince (right) invited himself up to the podium to debate Krebs. Prince defended his position on free speech grounds. He said he would comply with any court order, but would not refuse service to any web site otherwise. β€œIt’s not my job to censor the Internet.” He also got several digs into Krebs for not responding to his repeated offers to discuss this on the phone.

Prince currently has the last word on twitter... ...but perhaps we can look forward to Krebs returning to this issue in a future blog post.
