We're happy to announce the release of Cloudmark DesktopOne 1.2! Since the launch of DesktopOne, we've listened to your feedback and made many improvements that hopefully you'll find useful.
New Configuration Wizard
We constantly hear about automatic scanning issues and toolbars not appearing. In diagnosing these issues, we found that many customers just didn't have Cloudmark DesktopOne configured the right way. There are a lot of settings, so we've worked to make it easier. We revamped the startup experience to allow you to configure your email applications and accounts through a new wizard that is designed to present the most important options to you in a clearer way. We hope this reduces the amount of time and learning it takes to get you up and running.
We also made it easier to activate your product. Previous versions exposed the activation link as a menu item accessible from the notification icon. Windows often hides this icon, making activation hard to find. The new wizard lets you activate up front, so you won't have to hunt for it. (FYI, Basic users can just skip that step.)
Outlook 2010 64-bit Support
Another issue we constantly hear about both from our support staff and on the forums is lack of support for 64-bit Outlook (I'll call it OL64). We didn't think there would be that many OL64 users, based on the guidance from Microsoft. Organizations are generally best off running 32-bit Office unless they need support for huge data. After all, 32-bit Office uses less memory, has exactly the same feature set, and runs just as fast. In addition, OL64 breaks compatibility with 32-bit plugins (like ours). We found, however, that running 64-bit Office is becoming pretty common. So, we're happy to report that Cloudmark DesktopOne 1.2 supports 64-bit Outlook. Just install the 64-bit version and you're good to go.
One caveat: In our testing, we found that filtering IMAP accounts inside 64-bit Outlook leads to unstable behavior, so we've disabled that aspect.. If you have an IMAP account in Outlook, try using our standalone IMAP filter against that account rather than using the Outlook / Exchange filter. It will work a whole lot better.
Bug Fixes and Enhancements
We've fixed some of bugs in this release. Some of the hilights are:
  • More reliable toolbar installation in Outlook and Thunderbird
  • Faster, more reliable scanning of Outlook accounts
  • Reliability and performance updates to Thunderbird support
  • Block and Unblock bug fixes in Outlook
  • Lots of other stuff
We're always working to find ways to make DesktopOne as quick and seamless as possible, so watch this space for future updates. Do make your voice heard on our forum - we always appreciate constructive feedback.
Cheers,
Kevin Hsu
