...even bootleg Viagra spammers. We are currently seeing spam with the subject line being the title of a classic pop song and the body containing a URL ending with mp3. Of course, when you click on the link, you do not get a recording of the Fab Four but a "Canadian Pharmacy" page selling bootleg Viagra and other drugs. While it was Lady Madonna that caught my eye, a closer look at the song titles also showed tracks from Abba (though for some reason not Afternoon Delight), Boney M and Queen.
Viagra Sapmmer's Favorite Bands
While I have happy memories of seeing Queen play the Cambridge Corn Exchange before they were world famous, I confess I had to Google to find out who Boney M were. Like most people with musical taste, I spent the entire disco era with my head under a pillow screaming, "Make it go away!" Bootleg pharmacy spammers are the most persistent and creative in trying to come up with new ways to get you to click on a link to their web site, and they are continually trying new things. When song titles first appeared as subject lines for this sort of spam, the links did not appear to be to html or php files, but now they have apparently discovered they get better results if the link seems to be to an mp3 file. Personally I found this attack annoying. I resent the implication that if you are old enough to remember Abba, you probably need Viagra!
